Eurosport’s First Catalog

Eurosport just recently celebrated their 25th year of service to the soccer community. Eurosport is a huge part of this site. This site would not exist were it not for the glossy, action shot filled Eurosport catalogs that I’ve collected since my childhood.

Brian over at Eurosport was kind enough to send me the cover of their first catalog.

1st Eurosport Catalog

Eurosport’s first catalog features Bayern Munich’s Karl-Heinz Rummenige on the cover. Anyone want to weigh in on the identity of the bearded wonder marking him?

I love how the Eurosport logo has not changed in their 25 years of existence. It’s classic.

Goalies in Headgear

Petr Cech isn’t the first goalkeeper to grace the Englist league with headgear. Before Stephen Hunt crashed into Cech…forcing him to play with his protective helmet there was the always colorful Bruce “Crazy Legs” Grobbelaar.

My first Eurosport

My obsession with soccer began in 1990…while watching Italia 90. Since then I had become infatuated with anything soccer related. Soccer coverage was nothing like it is today…growing up in a small, midwestern town I had to work to find anything soccer related. I would scour the tv listings each week hoping ESPN would air anything soccer related. In the event that ESPN would air an episode of “German Soccer Weekly”, I’d have to frantically call friends, asking if they would tape the show for me as we lived in an area that was unserviceable by the cable companies. You can imagine how excited I was when I first learned about Eurosport.

I received my first Europort catalog in the Summer of 92. I was hooked.
